Why I chose Lake Stickney over bigger cities

Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 8.5%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $85,762, which feels pretty solid for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Does this match your experience? The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely average and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Downtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a HR manager and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.
