Best hidden gems in Lake Villa

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a college student here and Rent is about $1,430/month for a decent place. With a population of 8,707, Lake Villa is a small town. You can expect to pay around $1,430 for rent here. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Close to nature
- Low taxes
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Far from major airports
- Homelessness issues downtown
Thoughts? The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I've lived in Downtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cost of living scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for retirement and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The safety is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
