Random thought, My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $111,110 in Lake Villa. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Appreciate any input. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 6 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Miami it's solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is underrated in most areas.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Downtown area are tough. Kids love it here.
