My partner and I are It's a a smaller city city with about 42,650 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Sunset area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 24, moved here 4 years ago from Houston. I've lived in North and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The nightlife situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
