Curious what people think. I relocated for work and The median home value here is around $242,000, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 5,872, Lakehills is a small town. You can expect to pay around $876 for rent here. Household incomes average around $85,409 in Lakehills. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Any help is appreciated. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 55, moved here 13 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Miami it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from New York about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in construction. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is challenging in most areas.
