Random thought, I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -Lakeland sits at 311.8 per 100K. With a population of 117K, Lakeland is a mid-size city. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What are your go-to spots? Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
