Moving from Pittsburgh to Lakeland next month

Random thought, Median household income is $29,520, which feels on the lower side for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I overthinking this?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 11 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The housing market is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 53, moved here 11 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Highland and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The pet-friendliness situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for young professionals. average vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Nashville it's better than expected.
