Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm retired and Homes are going for about $530,900 on average. The median home value here is around $530,900, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $105,273, which feels pretty solid for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.
Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Far from major airports
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Would love some local perspective. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Bought a house here in 2020 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (West) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 7 years. Moved from Seattle for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited high-paying job options. And walkability can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..
