Curious what people think. I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Lakeland sits at 268.2 per 100K. With a population of 14,068, Lakeland is a small town. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Should I be concerned? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Boston about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
