Moving to Lakeside CDP (San Diego County) -what should I know?

I'm retired and Rent is about $1,976/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $1,976 for rent here. The median home value here is around $585,500, which is pretty steep. Homes are going for about $585,500 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I overthinking this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Maple Ridge area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 3 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
