Is it worth buying in Lakeside?

Hi all, I'm single, late 30s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Lakeside sits at 604.3 per 100K. The median home value here is around $249,300, which is actually reasonable. It's a a smaller city city with about 31,548 people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Diverse community
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- Poor road conditions
- Not enough green space
What do you all think? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 9 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in engineering here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is hit or miss. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
