Been meaning to ask this. My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Lakeside sits at 604.3 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The outdoor recreation scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Fairview) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Miami about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
