You can expect to pay around $1,384 for rent here. Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Any help is appreciated. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Portland about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 6 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
