What surprised you most about Lakeside town (Tarrant County)?

First post here. Poverty rate is 1.4%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Portland about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in tech. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Definitely worth checking out..
