I grew up here but left for a while. You can expect to pay around $1,060 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Moved here from Salt Lake City about 14 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to traffic but Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The walkability is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the South side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
