We're a young couple and Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What do you all think?

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in East for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The traffic scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 44, moved here 9 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Sunset and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The cost of living situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
