Living in Lakewood — the reality

First post here. Homes are going for about $548,200 on average. Average temperature is around 48°F, so expect cold winters. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Seattle it's average.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much established but now it's underrated.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 15 years. Moved from Portland for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is tough - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
