Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a mid-size city city with about 156K people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cheers. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I've lived in South for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The job market scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much wild but now it's solid.
