Is it worth buying in Lakewood?

Curious what people think. Rent is about $1,647/month for a decent place. Has anyone dealt with this?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Charlotte about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Italian.

No regrets on my end..

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.
