I've lived in Fairview for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- The housing market scene is improving
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from San Francisco about 6 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is solid.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in consulting. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is average.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 8 years. Moved from Seattle for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
finance is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Limited shopping options. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.
