Been meaning to ask this. I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,013/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 6.1%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. Anyone in a similar situation? Appreciate any input. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
