Anyone else feel this way? Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in finance. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is solid in most areas.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely better than expected and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Springfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 8 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
