Couple moving to Lamar from out of state

Hey folks, I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 10.8%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $137,100, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $58,487 in Lamar. The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What neighborhoods would you suggest? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Downtown area are tough. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Dallas about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
