First time home buyer in Lancaster

Hey folks, We have two kids and Rent is about $1,177/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 17.7%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Lancaster sits at 679.3 per 100K. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Diverse community
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports

There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor recreation is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
