Hey everyone, Homes are going for about $321,800 on average. Average temperature is around 45--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thanks! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 1 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 1 years. Moved from Austin for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Limited shopping options. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Fairview) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..
