Best and worst neighborhoods in Lansing

First post here. Born and raised here. Median household income is $52,170, which feels on the lower side for the area. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 5 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
