Rent is about $976/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from New York about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a teacher and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.
