Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 5.2%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $69,677, which feels about average for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Does this match your experience? Cheers.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Austin it's hit or miss.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in North for 13 years. Moved from Miami for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is decent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Property taxes are high. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in The Heights area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from San Diego about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Hope this helps!.
