Hey, We have two kids and Rent is about $1,990/month for a decent place. With a population of 6,542, Larchmont is a small town. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Any advice would be great. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Highland for 11 years. Moved from Houston for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Limited shopping options. And weather can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Nashville about 4 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
