Biggest downsides of living in Laredo?

Been meaning to ask this. I relocated for work and With a population of 256K, Laredo is a mid-size city. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Does this match your experience? Thanks for reading. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from San Francisco about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Raleigh it's underrated.
