Largo quality of life -am I missing something?

Longtime lurker here, I work in legal and It's a a smaller city city with about 82,506 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Largo sits at 383.7 per 100K. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Pine Hills side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor recreation is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- The traffic scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 44, moved here 7 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Old Town and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Can feel isolated
3. The traffic situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (The Heights) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.
