Came here for quality of life and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The school system is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 1 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to New York it's improving.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Baltimore it's tough.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Chicago about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
