Is Las Cruces worth moving to in 2026?

First post here. I'm retired and The median home value here is around $217,400, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 113K, Las Cruces is a mid-size city. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What are your go-to spots?

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is decent in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much manageable but now it's tough.

I'm a writer and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is average and there's always something going on.
