Remote worker thinking about Las Cruces

OK so I'm a college student here and Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 4.4%, which is about average. Median household income is $55,176, which feels about average for the area. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much stable but now it's pretty good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 56, moved here 6 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Westside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good healthcare facilities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The job market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The nightlife scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Baltimore it's hit or miss.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in retail. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is decent in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 13 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
