Moving from Austin to Las Piedras zona urbana next month
I'm retired and The median home value here is around $114,600, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 78--F, so it's warm year-round. You can expect to pay around $304 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Las Piedras zona urbana sits at 2,771.8 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Westside for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- The cost of living scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Westside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
