Is it worth buying in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea?

Longtime lurker here, I relocated for work and The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I overthinking this?

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The walkability is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Chicago about 2 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Meadowbrook area are average. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
