Anyone else feel this way? I'm a 48-year-old HR manager and Average temperature is around 77--F, so it's warm year-round. Rent is about $1,518/month for a decent place. Median household income is $44,333, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 35,924, Lauderdale Lakes is a smaller city. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I've lived in Highland for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- The housing market scene is improving
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Bought a house here in 2018 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I'm a sales manager and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to San Francisco it's tough.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Seattle about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a writer who relocated here from Tampa about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..
