Freelancing from Lauderdale Lakes -experience?

The median home value here is around $203,100, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 35,924, Lauderdale Lakes is a smaller city. Median household income is $44,333, which feels on the lower side for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,518 for rent here. Rent is about $1,518/month for a decent place. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Thoughts? The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The school system is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 54, moved here 9 years ago from Miami. I've lived in South and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Seattle it's excellent.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.
