What I wish I knew before living in Lauderhill

Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 17.0%, which is higher than I expected. Average temperature is around 77--F, so it's warm year-round. The median home value here is around $244,500, which is actually reasonable. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Old Town for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The food scene scene is tough

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 14 years. Moved from Miami for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Nashville about 6 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..
