Remote worker thinking about Laurel

I'm a 47-year-old accountant and Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. Homes are going for about $450,200 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Laurel sits at 187.1 per 100K. Poverty rate is 2.5%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Miami about 8 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is average.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
