Job market in Laurel for tech?

So, The median home value here is around $367,300, which seems about average. With a population of 29,594, Laurel is a smaller city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What do you all think? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I'm a contractor and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely solid and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.
