Rent in Laurel getting crazy

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in engineering and Homes are going for about $367,300 on average. Rent is about $1,878/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $367,300, which seems about average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- Chain restaurants dominate
What neighborhoods would you suggest? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from LA about 4 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 2 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The traffic is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
