Been meaning to ask this. With a population of 17,129, Laurel is a small town. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 25.9%, which is higher than I expected. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

- Sprawl everywhere
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people

The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good.
