Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $232,700 on average. The unemployment rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Is this normal for Laurel? The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Korean places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Old Town) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Uptown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- The job market scene is improving
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
