Raising a family in Laurinburg -thoughts?

Anyone else feel this way? I've been here for 17 years and It's a a small town city with about 15,079 people. Homes are going for about $121,500 on average. The median home value here is around $121,500, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $766 for rent here. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Rising rent prices
- Not very walkable
- Not enough green space
Looking forward to hearing from you all. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 41, moved here 5 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Riverside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The job market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
