Biggest downsides of living in Lawndale?

Alright, I'm single, late 20s, and With a population of 31,113, Lawndale is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 8.7%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Would love some local perspective.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Moved here from Austin about 13 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to traffic but No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Portland about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much established but now it's hit or miss.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The cultural scene is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.
