Top 5 things I love about Lawndale

The median home value here is around $726,000, which is pretty steep. The unemployment rate is 6.5%, which is concerning. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What do you all think? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The housing market is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 36, moved here 4 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Fairview and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The dating scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Chicago it's solid.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (South) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in North for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The job market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
