As a 3-year resident, here are some things about Lawrence that don't make it into the guides:
1. The local music scene is really vibrant
2. Community events happen almost every weekend
3. The local craft beer scene is legit

If you can afford it, Northside is the best place to live. Period.

Don't sleep on Old Town. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Public transit needs work but they're investing in it. Should improve in next few years.
