OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Hope this helps!.

I'm a social worker and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The safety is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 10 years. Moved from New York for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Far from beaches/mountains. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 51, moved here 9 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Pine Hills and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Property taxes are high
3. The walkability situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Austin about 5 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..
