Starting a business in Layhill?

Hi all, I've been here for 6 years and Crime rate is something to consider -Layhill sits at 356.2 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 5,392 people. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Let me know your thoughts. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The weather is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Maple Ridge area are improving. Kids love it here.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Chicago about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
